Incline bill passes Congressional committee
Here's a quick update on the bill by U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn, R-Colorado Springs, to remove a legal impediment to opening the Manitou Incline, a popular yet illegal trail in the foothills of Manitou Springs.
A Lamborn spokeswoman says the bill passed the House Natural Resources Committee by unanimous consent - meaning no vote was taken - Thursday afternoon. It moves for a vote by the full House this summer.
It would let the U.S. Forest Service accept the Cog Railway's abandonment of its right-of-way, required under an old federal law. A tourist train going up the side of the mountain shut down 20 years ago.
U.S. Sen. Michael Bennett, D-Colorado, has introduced the Senate version.
