Elite racers sign up for Bolder Boulder
Sara Slattery will finally be back in the Bolder Boulder spotlight.
And the Team USA roster for the International Team Challenge also has some star power.
The lineup had already been set when Slattery, a 10-time All-American at Colorado and winner of the Bolder Boulder women's elite race in 2006, asked professional race director Don Janicki if he had any spots open Team USA.
Deena Kastor - a three-time Bolder Boulder winner (2001-03) and a three-time Olympian (2000, 2004, 2008) - headlines a motivated group that also includes Magdalena Lewy-Boulet and Janet Cherobon-Bawcom.
"Both Sara and Deena have such a big following in Boulder and are such huge crowd favorites," Bolder Boulder race director Cliff Bosley said. "I'm really excited to have them. They're such great competitors and gracious winners. We love them both."
Shortly after a collectively disappointing performance at the U.S. Olympic marathon trials in January, the Team USA trio contacted Janicki about joining forces under the Flatirons this Memorial Day.
"I just like their attitude," Janicki said. "Magdalena came to me after the Olympic trials and she was a little down on herself. Deena probably felt the same way. They got together with Janet and decided to get together as a team."
Slattery will compete as part of Team Colorado along with Wendy Thomas and Adriana Nelson.
