Missing hiker, 75, found safe

CARBONDALE — A Wisconsin man who became separated from his companions in the North Thompson Creek area was found Tuesday at a private residence. He had hiked through the night, according to the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office.

Ernie Rikli, 75, of Ridgeway, Wis., was hiking with friends when they became separated. He was able to call for help with a cellphone Monday night.

Two Mountain Rescue teams were sent into the field at about 8 p.m. The search was suspended at about 4 a.m. Tuesday. Rikli was found at a private residence at about 10 a.m. Tuesday.
