Artists can join USA Pro Challenge bike art project
As many of the world's top cyclists race toward Beaver Creek on Aug. 23 during Stage 4 of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, 15 artists will compete in the Pro Art Challenge.
Each artist will begin creating an artwork in Beaver Creek Village at 11:30 a.m., when the cyclists leave Aspen for the day's race. The artists must complete their work by the time the first pro rider crosses the Beaver Creek finish line, estimated to be beween 3:30 and 3:50 p.m.
The Alpine Arts Center in Edwards is accepting Pro Art Challenge applications from interested artists.
Prizes will be awarded to the top artists. The Pro Art Challenge theme is “The World is Our Stage." Artists are asked to incorporate this theme as well as cycling into their work.
Spectators can watch the artists work and can bid to purchase the artworks.
Artists should contact Lauren Merrill, owner of the Alpine Arts Center and Pro Art Challenge organizer, at lauren@alpineartscenter.org to request an application or learn more.
