Wildlife officials issue 22 citations to hunters
DENVER — Colorado Parks and Wildlife authorities issued 22 citations and inspected about 180 vehicles during a wildlife check on Interstate 70 in November.
It was the first wildlife check station conducted on a major Colorado interstate in nearly 20 years.
The two-day operation was held Nov. 7 and 8. Only vehicles whose passengers had been hunting or fishing were asked to enter the search bays.
The wildlife checkpoint was the first in Colorado on an interstate since 1993 That is when more than 1,250 vehicles were searched on Raton Pass and thousands of hunters were cited. Authorities said three tons of illegal game meat was confiscated.
