GLENWOOD SPRINGS — A 73-foot-tall Colorado spruce tree is about to begin a long journey to the U.S. Capitol for Christmas.

The U.S. Forest Service said the tree will be cut Friday at Ripple Creek Lodge east of Meeker.

Former U.S. Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell and the lodge owner will be driving a truck that will carry the tree in a special cradle.

According to the Glenwood Springs Post Independent (http://tinyurl.com/8fjaj6w ), Campbell drove another Colorado tree across country in 2000 to decorate the U.S. Capitol.
