Save money as you gear up for winter at Saturday sale/swap

It's time to get ready for winter - and what better way to gear up than a Snow Jam/Gear Swap/Sale and Party?

Mountain Equipment Recyclers will hold the big shebang Saturday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at its store south of downtown, 1024 S. Tejon St.

Winter gear - skis, snowboards, boots, helmets, goggles, snowshoes, clothing, etc. - for the swap can be dropped off this week at the store. You'll receive 80 percent of the sale price. If items do not sell, you can pick them up or leave them at the shop for the normal 50-50 consignment deal.

If you haven't been to the store or you don't know about its mission, check out this story.

The first 100 guests between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. get a free lunch (burgers from the grill).

Ben Knighten will play at 11 a.m. and Grass it Up will play at 1 p.m., so you can enjoy live music while you shop.

And, as if that's not all, there will be prizes and giveaways throughout the day.

Parking will be available nearby at 1004 S. Tejon St.
