The 10th Mountain Division Hut Association announces the opening of the 31st hut in the system of huts linking Aspen via high country routes through Eagle County to Breckenridge. The newest hut, the Point Breeze Cabin, is located at 10,500 feet just three-quarters of a mile from the trailhead on Tennessee Pass across Highway 24 from Ski Cooper.
Point Breeze is the second cabin on Tennessee Pass built and owned by Lee Rimel, a long time Eagle County local and steward of the area. Similar to the popular Continental Divide Cabin built in 2007 by Lee, the cabin sleeps eight, includes a complete kitchen with all utensils, three gas burners, a wood burning stove with an oven, and a outdoor gas grill. The cabin cost is $340 per night for the entire cabin.
Information on 10th Mountain Huts is available at www.huts.org or by calling (970) 925-5775. The website includes a page for each of the 31 huts with photos, detailed descriptions, hut history and information on trails, hut use and reservations.
