Hiker dies after 600-foot fall on North Maroon Peak
A man died Saturday while hiking on Maroon Bells.
The man, who has not been identified, was about 300 feet from the summit of North Maroon Peak when he fell 600 to 1,000 feet, Alex Burchetta, spokesman for the Pitkin County Sheriff's office, told The Denver Post.
The sheriff's office started coordinating with Mountain Rescue Aspen at about 9:30 a.m. A flight team was launched at about noon.
Hikers who reached the body said the man appears to be in his 30s and hiking alone.
A team is working to remove the body from the mountain.
