Memorial set and memorial fund created to honor ski pioneer Theo Meiners

A memorial service and celebration of life for former Colorado Springs resident and pioneering heli-skier and alpine skiing guide Theo Meiners will be held Oct. 27 in Teton Village, Wyo.

The memorial service will be held outdoors in the Village Commons at 3 p.m., followed by a celebration at the Mangy Moose Saloon. Friends are welcome.

Meiners, 59, a graduate of Widefield High School, died Sept. 20 in Anchorage, Alaska.

He is survived by his daughter, Alexandra Meiners, and son, Aidan Meiners; sisters Lori Muehlbauer, of Colorado Springs, and Penny Jo Hauserman, of Junction City, Kan.; brother Michael Meiners, of Carbondale, and six nieces and nephews.

Meiners was an alpine guide at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort for 33 years. He founded Alaska Rendezvous Heli-Guides near Valdez, Alaska, in 2001. Read more about his adventurous life and outsized personality.

In lieu of gifts or flowers the family has set up the Theodore Meiners Memorial Fund. Money collected by the fund will be used to promote avalanche awareness. Meiners traveled the work teaching avalanche safety to backcountry skiers, snowboarders and patrollers.
