Adventure race in Green Mountain Falls is open to newbies and veterans
If you've been thinking about joining an adventure race, but felt too intimidated by the distance or complexity of events, Saturday's Lil' Big in Green Mountain Falls is for you.
It's part of a larger event created by Big Mountain Adventure Racing. And there's still time to sign up for the longer, more advanced races, too.
But the Lil' Big is a great way to test the waters - 4 to 7 miles and taking no more than 2 hours. You'll run on dirt and paved trails with minor route-finding, a few miles of mountain biking, a short kayak paddle in the pond and a special challenge.
The other races will take 4-6 hours, 9-12 hours or 18-24 hours and include running, orienteering, mountain biking, kayaking, a zipline and a special challenge. The zipline is said to be a spectacular 700-foot traverse across a canyon. The long race kayak challenge includes a portage.
Big Mountain's previous races were a lot of fun and challenging.
