Deputies believe man was assaulted at campground

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said an injured man found east of Woodland Park late Sunday morning is likely the victim of an assault.

Deputies were dispatched just before 11 a.m. Sunday on a medical call to Springdale Campground, about five miles east of Woodland Park near Rampart Reservoir said sheriff's Lt. Jeff Kramer. Deputies began investigating the incident as an assault after observing the man’s injuries.

Kramer said the man was incoherent and was taken to a hospital in Colorado Springs.

Initials reports said the man had a fractured skull.

Deputies are investigating the incident, Kramer said.
