Deer hunting limits to be decided
Colorado Parks and Wildlife is planning how much hunting will be allowed in the Gunnison Basin and wildlife officers want your input.
You can review the draft management plans for deer in the Gunnison Basin at the agency's website.
The draft plans cover the Taylor Park herd, Game Management Units 55 and 551; the Powderhorn herd, GMUs 66 and 67; and the West Elk herd, GMU 54.
Hunters and others interested in the deer populations sent Parks and Wildlife more than 900 comments over summer as the draft plans were created. Now officials want input on those plans.
"Comments came from people throughout Colorado and across the country, and were very helpful in developing plans that we believe maintain a quality hunting experience while potentially providing more hunter opportunity," said Brandon Diamond, terrestrial biologist for Parks and Wildlife in Gunnison, in a news statement.
You can mail your comments by Nov. 16 to Brandon Diamond at: Colorado Parks and Wildlife, attn: Brandon Diamond, 300 W. New York Ave., Gunnison, CO 81230. Or send comments via email to Brandon.diamond@state.co.us.
The plans will be submitted to the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission for an initial review at its meeting in Yuma on Nov. 8 and discussed further at its meeting in Colorado Springs on Dec. 6.
Plans are scheduled to be approved by the commission at its Jan. 10 meeting in Denver. You also can comment at those meetings.
