High country bike ride helps maintain cycling paths

Cyclists looking for a challenging ride that will benefit cycling might join this year's Circle the Summit / Bob Guthrie Memorial Ride on Aug. 18.

The Summit County event includes 21-, 45-, 60- and 100-mile routes. The ride raises money to help maintain the county's recpaths.

About 400 riders are registered and capacity is 750. Cost is $65 ($75 after Aug. 14) and includes a water bottle, aid stations and a lunch provided by the Mint Steakhouse, Dillon Dam Brewery, Mary's Mountain Cookies and several breweries.

Money raised in previous years helped finish the Swan Mountain recpath, install solar lights and support young cyclists.

Read more about the ride and how proceeds may be used.
