Buff Classic bike ride may benefit from USA Pro Challenge

Organizers of the Buffalo Bicycle Classic - a charity ride that raises scholarship money for students at the University of Colorado - seem to be benefiting from the excitement of the USA Pro Challenge that raced into Boulder on Aug. 25.

The Elevations Credit Union Buffalo Bicycle Classic is scheduled for Sunday, and some riders who participate in the 10th annual ride will follow the mountainous Boulder Canyon section ride the pros did last month.

Todd Gleeson, the ride's founder and former dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said last year there were 1,850 participants. He estimated at least 400 more people than last year were registered before the race.

The Buffalo Bicycle Classic has raised more than $1.6 million since 2003 and has funded more than 730 scholarships.
