CHRISTIAN MURDOCK, THE GAZETTE
Sam Van Gampleare, left, Eric Olson, and Trish Gilmore placed a log across a hillside Aug. 10, 2012, at The Flying W Ranch to slow down the erosion after the Waldo Canyon fire. "I watched it burn and had to help," said Gilmore, who lives north of the ranch. They were among about 50 volunteers working with the Coalition for the Upper South Plate to mitigate flooding after the fire.
