Search on for snowmobilers stuck on Buffalo Pass
Steamboat Springs — Routt County Search and Rescue volunteers are searching Monday morning for a group of five snowmobilers stuck on Buffalo Pass.
Incident commander Kristia Check-Hill said Monday that rescuers have been in constant communication with the snowmobilers since about 6:15 a.m. and believe they are stuck in a ravine in the north fork of the Fish Creek drainage.
"At one point, they indicated they may have heard our sleds," Check-Hill said. "They are tired and cold and just want to go home."
Eight searchers on skis, snowshoes and snowmobiles are searching for the stranded group.
They were able to start a fire Sunday night, and no one is thought to be injured.
The search started Sunday night after someone in the stranded group called a relative in Fort Collins to report the snowmobilers were cold, wet and stranded somewhere near the power lines that run down the mountain pass in the vicinity of Summit Lake.
Five rescuers headed to Dry Lake on Sunday to stage for the search. It was suspended until early Monday after the stranded party was contacted.
