Caleb Moore has heart surgery after crash at X Games

THE DENVER POST

ASPEN — While Aspen doctors evaluated snowmobiler Caleb Moore late Thursday night for a concussion he suffered in an ugly freestyle accident at the X Games, the 25-year-old developed bleeding around his heart.

The athlete from Texas was airlifted to Grand Junction's St. Mary's Hospital.

"He underwent surgery this morning. It went well, he is currently in ICU with a heart contusion," said Moore spokeswoman Chelsea Lawson on Friday. "Doctors are optimistic."

Moore and his brother Colten both crashed on the same jump during Thursday night's snowmobile freestyle finals at Buttermilk ski area. Colten was treated at the hospital for a pelvic injury that will not require surgery, Lawson said.
