2 Colorado women summit Mount Everest

Boulder climber Emily Harrington summited Mount Everest on Friday and sent an Instagram photo to National Geographic as the team stood on top of the world.

She says in an interview on the Nat Geo website that she never thought she would climb the world's highest mountain.

Harrington has been volunteering as an instructor at the Khumbu Climbing Center in the shadow of Everest. The center teaches Nepali climbers technical skills in rock and ice climbing, as well as safety and leadership, according to the website.

Also on the team is ski mountaineer Hilaree O'Neill, of Telluride.

The team stayed on the summit for about an hour to collect data for Montana State University.
