Boulder velodrome is closing

DAILY CAMERA

Boulder Indoor Cycling, home to one of just two velodromes in the state of Colorado, closed its doors Monday after almost four years in business.

Editors' Note: The other velodrome is here at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs.

The owners said the velodrome simply did not bring in enough customers to stay open.

"It's certainly not what anyone was hoping for," said Bruce McPherson, president of Boulder Indoor Cycling. "We were hoping to provide a service to the community and make it a profitable business."

In addition to the velodrome, the converted warehouse housed a mountain biking course.

"The single biggest factor was the seasonality," he said. "We had riders for essentially four months of the year. We had a core group that rode all year long, but it wasn't enough."

The company will be liquidating most of its inventory, including its rental fleet of track bicycles and bicycle parts.
