Volunteers create more than 1,000 feet of Cheyenne Mountain trail

THE GAZETTE

Volunteers sweated through the weekend, creating 1,350 feet of trail up Cheyenne Mountain from a trailhead in Cheyenne Mountain State Park.

Eighty-five people worked Sept. 8 and 70 people worked Sept. 9 to cut brush, dig out trail and set rocks along the path that eventually will take hikers from the park to the summit.

The work was organized through Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado.

The volunteers also built a switchback, removed seven stumps or trees, installed three drainage structures and built 78 feet of rock wall.
