Springs' Compton is shooting for cyclocross World Cup

THE GAZETTE

Colorado Springs resident Katie Compton (Trek Cyclocross Collective) came back from a bad start and a late crash Sunday to win the second round of the 2012-13 UCI World Cup.

She is the series leader.

Compton, 33, is shooting for two titles that have eluded her during a hugely successful career: the overall World Cup plus the world championship.

She is focusing solely on cyclocross this season.

The world championships are set for Feb. 2 and 3 in Kentucky, the first time outside Europe since their inception in 1950.

Compton has won 12 World Cup races, has worn the World Cup leader's jersey and has placed 3rd, 2nd, 4th and 3rd overall in the prior four seasons.
