Zombies are a major obstacle at this summer 5K
If you haven't decided which adventure race to sign up for this year, consider Run For Your Lives, a recent addition to the madcap-race calendar.
Why? In a word: zombies.
The zombie-infested 5K adventure race expands across the country this year and stops in Lakewood on July 14.

Not only will you face a 5K course filled with obstacles to climb over, crawl through and splash across, but you'll be wearing a flag football-like belt with three flags and be chased by flesh-hungry zombies.
You'll need to figure out the quickest route to the finish line and get there with at least one flag on your belt (the zombies will try to snatch them) to be considered a survivor.
Survivors and newly-created zombies – those who finish without flags – then will celebrate at an Apocalypse Party, with bands, food, beverages, and of course, zombies.
Registration ($77 through May 30; $87 from May 31 to June 29) includes a race shirt, admission to the Apocalypse Party, a medal signifying your survival or zombie transformation, and advanced training for the zombie apocalypse. Spectator and camping packages are available.
Prizes will be given to the top male and female human finishers in several age brackets. There will also be an awards bracket for military participants. A portion of every ticket sold will be donated to the American Red Cross.
